Cumbria Guides, Brownies and Rainbows have crafty time at Coniston workshops
Last updated at 15:20, Friday, 04 May 2012
MORE than 600 Guides, Brownies and Rainbows came together to celebrate the arts of dance and drama.
Youngsters from all over South Cumbria, accompanied by more than 100 adult volunteers, went to John Ruskin School and the Institute in Coniston to take part in activities including drama, Bollywood dancing, zumba, salsa, and street dancing, as well as mask-making, drumming, animation, video and reporting workshops.
Session leader, Mai Harrison, said: “Helping the girls develop their reporting skills was very exciting.
“The Brownies were enthusiastic photographers, and the Guides took their job as event reporters seriously – going into the various classes and interviewing the volunteers and their peers with purpose and professionalism.”
The event, held last Saturday and Sunday, also saw the Rainbows celebrate their 25th anniversary with a circus skills-themed workshop, a big top cake and an incredible circus performance finale.
Barb Littlewood, county commissioner and lead volunteer for Girlguiding Cumbria South said: “What a fantastic weekend. This is thanks to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to organise the event and to the team of professionals who came to work with us.”
