Advertising feature. For someone suffering with hyperhidrosis, wet handshakes are an embarrassing reality. The recipient is put off, it can end business deals and it makes it impossible to hide a case of nerves. With the help of a Botox treatment being referred to as 'Palm-tox', however, sufferers can end all this and enjoy a life without worrying about the effects of sweaty palms.
The cosmetic surgery professionals at Transform Cosmetic Surgery Group are now using the popular wrinkle treatment Botox to cure excessively sweaty palms. This should be a welcomed relief for the 1% of the UK's population who currently live with hyperhidrosis.
The Botox acts on the nerves under the skin that lead to the sweat glands. It then stops the electronic pulses from reaching the glands and 'turning them on', which normally starts the excessive moisture production. The injection takes approximately ten minutes and the effects last up to six months.
Transform has noticed a surge of interest in Botox treatments throughout its London locations. Most of this interest comes from new and current male patients who are frustrated and tired of dealing with the effects of excessive sweating.
The cosmetic surgery group has noted a 200% increase in the treatment's popularity since October 2009. They attribute this gain to the effects of the recession and warmer weather.
"An estimated one in every hundred UK residents suffers with hyperhidrosis and its effects. We originally used the procedure to treat the armpit area, but we've had an increasing number of patients interested in the treatment," explained Gwen Davies, the Non-Surgical Manager for Transform.
"Our cosmetic surgeons are always on the hunt for new uses for Botox in an effort to ease the effects of other health conditions. This has led to the use of Botox to treat conditions such as teeth and jaw grinding (bruxism), migraines and sweating. It's important to note, however, because it's a highly specialized treatment that must be performed by an experience professional," said Davies.
With 24 locations and 35 years' experience, Transform is the UK's largest and most popular cosmetic surgery group. They offer patients liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tucks and a complete line of surgical and non-surgical treatments.
