Manchester City kids to strut their stuff against Barrow AFC

BARROW AFC will get another chance to test themselves against top opposition tomorrow when Premier League Manchester City visit Holker Street (3pm).

The pre-season friendly will give joint-bosses Dave Bayliss and Darren Sheridan a further chance to look at some triallists and assess their squad, with the Blue Square Bet Premier season just two weeks away.

And although the City line-up will be one made up of their under-21 Elite Development Squad, not first team superstars, they will still provide Barrow with a very stern test.

While first-team boss Roberto Mancini will be watching his galaxy of millionaire stars strut their stuff against European club champions Inter Milan in the US, the club’s next generation will be eager to make an impression all of their own at Holker Street.

The youngsters – much as Blackburn Rovers’ slick kids did on Tuesday night in a 2-0 win – are expected to give the injury-hit Bluebirds a tough ride.

Tomorrow’s City under-21 squad visiting Holker Street is likely to contain teenage keeper Loris Karuis, who City acquired from German side Stuttgart, England under-20 right-back Javan Vidal, defender Ryan McGivern, a full Northern Ireland international with 11 caps, Norwegian midfielder Omar Elabdellaoui, highly-rated attacking midfield prospect James Poole and Swiss youth international Freddie Veseli.

Also included could be Adam Clayton, a 21-year-old central midfielder who was on loan at Carlisle United last season.

Two Simon Wiles penalties helped Barrow to a 3-1 friendly win at Cheadle Town on Wednesday night, with a team featuring some Salford College triallists.
