The Mark Coward Cup has been introduced in memory of the popular former Askam player, who died last year at 21, after suffering heart and lung infections.

The trophy will be added to the Rob Livesey Cup, awarded to a player who has excelled on and off the field for his club. This was won last season by Adam Batty, of Roose Pioneers.

The introduction of the new award was confirmed at the league’s AGM, where the draws for both the Barton Townley Cup and the Frank Reid Cup were also made.

There will be a repeat of this year’s Barton Townley Cup final in the first round, as champions Barrow Island once more take on Ulverston, who they saw off at Craven Park in the final in March.

South Cumbria’s only National Conference side, Millom, will host North West Counties Premier Division outfit Walney Central, while Askam play Dalton, and Hindpool take on Roose Pioneers.

In the Frank Reid Cup, holders Millom travel to Askam, while last season’s runners-up Hindpool are at Dalton in the first round.

The league’s officials were also elected at the meeting.

They will be as follows: chairman, Peter Hornby; vice-chairman, Josh Kenley; treasurer, Steve Taylor; secretary, Terry Barker; fixture secretary, Ally McGregor; PRO, Jeff Coward.

Three new referees will also officiate in the league. They are Shaun Morrow, John Langhorn and Steve Parkin.
