WEDDING HAIR: Stylist and business owner of Karma hair salon, Tracey Marie Whiteside styles Rebekah Caine’s hair SUBMITTED

A GIRL with a passion for hair set up her own business, turning a haircutter’s shop into a complete High Street Retreat.

The result is Review, run by stylist Karen Johnson. Review is on three floors and includes a beauty studio where guests can be pampered.

Karen said: “We use Jane Iredale mineral make up for a skin that can breathe and glow.

“I am always looking for new and forward thinking products, which is why our beauty therapist is so valuable here. She is trained in using Environ skin care, which is about feeding the skin with vitamins and minerals.”

The beauty studio has an Environ facial machine, voted by Harpers and Queen magazine as providing among the top 10 best facials in the world.

On the middle floor at Review there is a relaxing coffee bar selling amazing homemade food and cakes, all vegetarian.

The ground floor houses the famous hair salon, where Karen’s zest for forward-thinking products and people means the best products for guests and the best staff to carry out the styling.

“We use Aveda at the backwash for healthy hair, and use all their styling products right through to Aveda colour.”

As well as being a fully qualified stylist for more than 19 years, Karen is trained as an advanced nutrition consultant.

She said: ”We endorse the Advanced Nutrition Programme, which is more than a range of supplements.”

It’s a complete nutritional programme, including an online consultation on diet and lifestyle and online health report with recommendations for optimal health, Karen said.

Review is based on the corner of Nelson Street and Howard Street, telephone 01229 820082.
