The former Dragley Beck player is using his old stomping ground as the perfect venue to try out new coaching techniques, based on lessons learnt from Manchester United.
Wilkinson, who has also had two spells in caretaker charge at Barrow RL and who is taking charge at the Vikings along with Mick Cassidy while head coach Paul Cullen is on compassionate leave, has spent time with Ulverston and head coach Alan Moses.
He said: “The aim is to remodel the delivery method of coaching techniques to be like those which are presently being used by Manchester United and the British Judo team.
“The young team responded very well. I will be continuing these sessions for the next month then look for feedback from the coaching staff.”
Also at Ulverston, Martin John is working on the latest techniques in defensive coaching, with Craven Park legend and Ulverston player Phil Atkinson looking at the offence.
